Earth element

Ayurveda reminds us that everything in life is nature – and everything in nature is made up of five elements: earth, fire, water, air and space (also known as ether). Since us humans are part of nature too, our bodies are also made up of these elements – in three different blends, which Ayurveda calls Doshas.

In Ayurveda, the earth ("Prithvi" in Sanskrit) is one of the five essential elements (Pancha Mahabhutas) that form the foundation of life and existence. It represents stability, endurance, and support, providing the solid framework upon which both the body and the universe are built. As the most grounding of all elements, earth ensures balance, strength, and resilience in physical, mental, and emotional aspects of life.

Earth and your body

In Ayurvedic physiology, the earth element forms the body's structure — bones, muscles, tissues, and organs. It contributes to strength, stamina, and immunity, helping maintain a stable and healthy body. The earth element also influences the mind, fostering emotional stability, patience, and endurance.
